Tesla has started manufacturing a new, more affordable version of the Model Y at its Fremont factory, with deliveries scheduled to begin in June 2025. The base model, priced at $42,990—$5,000 less than the previous entry-level variant—features a simplified interior and a smaller LFP battery pack with an estimated range of 260 miles. Production is expected to ramp up to 10,000 units per month by Q3 2025, with initial allocations prioritizing North American markets.

The new variant eliminates some premium features, such as ambient lighting and power-adjustable seats, to reduce costs. Tesla confirmed that the vehicle will still include Autopilot as standard and will be eligible for the $3,750 U.S. federal EV tax credit. CEO Elon Musk stated that this move aims to make EVs more accessible amid slowing demand in the competitive $40,000–$50,000 SUV segment.
Tesla also announced that European and Asian production of the cheaper Model Y will begin in late 2025 at Giga Berlin and Giga Shanghai. Analysts estimate the new pricing could boost Tesla’s global sales by 12–15% in 2026, particularly in markets where affordability remains a key barrier to EV adoption.
