Tesla's Giga Texas facility has officially marked a significant achievement this week by reaching the incredible milestone of producing 400,000 Model Y vehicles since its inception nearly three years ago. This remarkable feat was celebrated with a visually stunning arrangement of red Model Ys displayed on the rooftop parking garage, captured in recent drone footage by frequent aerial observer Joe Tegtmeyer. The video showcased the factory's innovative production capabilities, highlighting the seamless journey of the Model Ys as they autonomously navigate from the production line to sorting lanes, covering an impressive distance of nearly two miles without any human intervention.

In addition to the Model Y celebration, Tegtmeyer provided insights into the ongoing activities at Giga Texas, where Cybertrucks were also spotted on the factory grounds. Many Cybertrucks mirrored the Model Y’s path from production, while others were seen emerging from the so-called “Cybertunnel.” Notably, some of these vehicles appeared to be operating autonomously, indicating further advancements in Tesla's self-driving technology, while others had human operators, likely intended for quality control and differentiation of new production units from those in temporary storage.
Work on future projects at the Giga Texas site is also gaining momentum. At the second Megapack installation area, construction is well underway, with approximately two-thirds of the Megapacks already installed on sturdy steel beams. Electrical connectivity is next on the agenda, with wiring work slated to commence soon to link these units to transformers. Groundwork efforts adjacent to the electrical switchyard are ongoing, focusing on land elevation and clearing debris from old mining operations. Crews are actively extending a new drainage pipe towards a planned water detention pond, with daily transport of dirt from the north field via center dump trucks. Additionally, a Tesla drone team has been spotted filming the Megapack installation work, hinting at an upcoming official showcase of the progress.
