Following the recent US-China trade agreement, Tesla plans to restart the import of components for its Cybercab and Semi trucks from China starting at the end of this month. The company had temporarily halted its export plans after the US government announced tariffs last month, which also threatened to delay the mass production schedules of new models. However, on Monday, both countries agreed to remove most tariffs and trade restrictions, paving the way for Tesla to resume international supply chains.

Tesla intends to initiate trial production of the Cybercab and Semi models in October, with a goal of achieving full-scale production by 2026. The Cybercab, designed as an autonomous electric taxi without steering wheels or pedals, will be manufactured in Texas. Meanwhile, the Semi trucks are scheduled to be produced in Nevada, with the company aiming to significantly ramp up output and fulfill long-delayed deliveries to clients such as PepsiCo. The Cybercab was first unveiled in October last year with a projected price below $30,000 (approximately 216,000 RMB), highlighting Tesla’s push into autonomous urban mobility.
In addition to production plans, Tesla is actively seeking approval from state authorities for its autonomous ride-hailing service featuring the Cybercab. CEO Elon Musk has publicly supported free trade and opposed tariffs, stating during last month’s earnings call that he had requested the White House to lower tariffs, though decision-making ultimately rests with the President. Tesla’s CFO Vaibhav Taneja also noted that tariffs on imported equipment from China have hindered capital investments and the expansion of domestic manufacturing facilities, emphasizing that the resolution of trade tensions could accelerate Tesla’s growth in the US market.
