Tesla Introduces Affordable Model 3 with Fabric Upholstery

In a surprising move, Tesla has unveiled a more budget-friendly version of the Model 3 featuring fabric upholstery instead of leather. This marks a notable shift for the automaker, as all prior models were exclusively offered with leather interiors.

The new fabric-upholstered version has appeared in the configurator for customers in Mexico, effectively catering to those looking for a more economical option. This iteration of the Model 3 is described as a more stripped-down Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) model. In addition to the fabric seats, various features such as vegan leather, acoustic glass in the rear, and seat and steering wheel heating and ventilation have been omitted, with the heated steering wheel completely removed from this model. The fabric interior comes in a sophisticated gray color, providing a refreshing alternative to the standard black or white vegan leather often seen in the Model 3.

Priced approximately $2,600 less than the previous entry-level model, this new offering presents a compelling choice for budget-conscious consumers, particularly in warmer climates like Mexico, where heated seats may be less desirable. However, the absence of ventilation for the seats might still disappoint some potential buyers. Additionally, this model lacks the rear passenger screen and ambient lighting, which have been removed in this basic configuration.

If Tesla brings this fabric-upholstered Model 3 to markets such as the Netherlands, its price could potentially dip to around 40,000 euros. The question remains: does the missing heated features and leather upholstery sway potential buyers away, or does this stripped-back version represent an appealing prospect for those seeking a more affordable Tesla option?
