Elon Musk has unveiled a new capability for the Tesla Cybertruck, known as "wade mode," allowing the electric pickup to traverse through water, thanks to a feature called the "Scuba Pack." The Scuba Pack pressurizes the battery, enabling the Cybertruck to drive in water depths exceeding two feet. Lars Moravy, Tesla's vice president of vehicle engineering, discussed this feature on Jay Leno's garage, explaining that drivers can activate wade mode with the press of a button. Currently, it takes up to 10 minutes to activate, and there is a 30-minute time limit.
Elon Musk expressed a broader vision for the Cybertruck, stating on X that Tesla plans to offer a "mod package" that transforms the Cybertruck into a watercraft, capable of traversing at least 100 meters as a boat. Musk suggested that upgrading cabin door seals is mostly all that is required for this enhanced off-roading capability. Moravy noted that the Cybertruck "almost floats" and mentioned the possibility of adding extra buoyancy for stability. Musk playfully suggested that with some creativity, owners could even attach an outboard motor and go boating by turning it on from the vehicle's screen.
