A Tesla Cybertruck recently gained widespread attention when a video surfaced on social media showing it sliding down a snowy embankment with a Christmas tree strapped to its roof. The U.S. Forest Service seized the opportunity presented by this viral incident to promote awareness about proper off-road vehicle usage on public lands. The Stanislaus National Forest, in a somewhat playful move acknowledged by Forest Service spokesman Benjamin Cossel, issued a news release proposing a collaboration with Tesla for an "education campaign regarding off-road vehicle use on public lands." Stanislaus National Forest Supervisor Jason Kuiken expressed enthusiasm about exploring public lands but emphasized the need to educate users about Motor Vehicle Use Maps.
Despite the Forest Service's initiative, Tesla has yet to respond to the partnership offer, and attempts to obtain comments from the company have been unsuccessful. The incident occurred when a Tesla Cybertruck lost traction and descended down an embankment in the Calaveras Ranger District, Christmas tree still attached to its roof. The vehicle was eventually rescued with the assistance of a Ford truck.
The Forest Service believes that better awareness of topographical features on maps, adherence to Leave No Trace principles, and overall preparedness could have prevented the incident. Officials suggest that such knowledge could not only have averted the mishap but also provided valuable education to new off-road users.
