Tesla has introduced a new feature in Europe that makes it easier for drivers to find and use third-party chargers, reducing the chances of long waits at charging stations. The new functionality, visible in Tesla’s navigation system, displays real-time availability at select third-party Superchargers.
Tesla owner and X user Matty06 recently shared photos showing the feature, which reveals the status of non-Tesla charging stations on the map. For example, one station was shown with the message "1 of 2 available," indicating the number of available chargers at that location. This feature is part of Tesla’s Qualified Third-Party Charger Program, launched in 2022, which includes chargers that meet specific criteria, such as having a compatible connector and a success rate of at least 90%.
To check the availability and charging speeds of these third-party stations, Tesla drivers can simply tap on the charger icon in the navigation map. While the system doesn’t offer the same automatic routing as Tesla’s Supercharger network, which directs drivers to the best stations based on availability, it’s a helpful addition that streamlines the charging process.
This move aligns with Tesla’s broader strategy of expanding access to its Supercharging network. Earlier this year, Tesla opened its Superchargers to non-Tesla EV brands in Sweden and the Netherlands. Additionally, the company is offering one year of free Supercharging for new Model Y buyers in Europe who take delivery by the end of 2024, further solidifying its commitment to improving the EV charging experience.
By enhancing its charging network and expanding accessibility, Tesla is continuing to make strides in supporting the growing EV market in Europe.
