Tesla Launches Projection Puddle Lights in North America

Tesla has officially introduced its Projection Puddle Lights to the North American market after a successful trial run in China. These unique lights, which project the ‘Tesla’ wordmark onto the ground when front doors are opened, are priced at $65 USD or $90 CAD. They are compatible with the Model Y and all versions of the Model 3, including the newly released 2024 Model 3 Highland Refresh. However, they are not currently available for the Model X or Model S.

This move follows Tesla's strategy of soft-launching products in China before broader releases, a tactic previously seen with the Caraoke Mic introduced in the U.S. last July. The puddle lights enhance the Tesla experience with their high-definition display, providing a stylish welcome as drivers and passengers enter the vehicle. While technically installable in rear doors, Tesla does not officially endorse this, and third-party solutions may encounter issues with brightness due to wiring limitations.

Installation is user-driven and not covered by Tesla, but the company provides a DIY service manual to guide customers through the process. It’s relatively straightforward, requiring only a blunt plastic tool to remove the old puddle lights and disconnect the power adapter. Overall, these Projection Puddle Lights not only add functionality but also reflect Tesla’s commitment to innovative design, further enriching the driving experience for owners.
