Tesla Ditches Cybertruck Foundation Series, Regular Trims to Hit the Market Next Quarter

Tesla has made the decision to discontinue the Cybertruck Foundation Series, a premium option that was launched in November 2023. The move comes as demand for the electric pickup truck has slowed down, and the company aims to boost sales by making the vehicle more affordable.

The Foundation Series was marketed as a high-end option, with a price tag of $99,990. However, the extra cost came with perks such as unlimited lifetime Supercharging, free Full Self-Driving Capability, and a voucher for bi-directional charging system installation. Despite the premium price, many customers opted for the Foundation Series, but as interest in the Cybertruck waned, Tesla stopped buying back trucks from flippers and refused to offer the configuration.

Instead, the company will open the order books for regular Cybertruck trims in the next quarter. The base model will start at $79,990, making it more accessible to a wider range of customers. The move is expected to boost demand and drive sales, which have been slower than expected since the vehicle's launch.

Tesla's production capacity is also expected to increase, with the company aiming to produce 125,000 Cybertrucks per year by the end of 2024. Additionally, Tesla is working on certifying the vehicle for international markets, with plans to launch in new regions by 2025. With its expanded production capacity and increased availability, Tesla is poised to make a bigger impact in the electric vehicle market.
